i have had my Snap for 9 years and for the first time ever some construction company comes in and announces they are there to take pictures of my gym and measurements for the new construction!! Not having a clue who this person was I told them that's not going to happen. After much argument they went outside and called their boss and within 10 minutes ( faster than I have ever got a call back) someone from corporate was calling me telling me I had to allow it. Later I found out an email was supposed to go out letting us know about this but it was still in review for approval. They verify to me weekly that they all morons and the only reason that this is happening to the clubs is for Peter to make more money or buy your club for pennies on the dollar because if you spend the money for all the dumbass stuff they want you to you might as well close your doors. People, don't be fooled that these people are trying to help you. It's all about them making more money!!

Yep!! Me too , they came in yesterday. Said they'd send me a quote soon!
Umm ok. I responded that there isn't going to be any work done because I don't have the money!

They are probably thinking face to face encouragement of modernizing might make you sign for that upgrade sooner. Otherwise, owners will just sit there and keep what they have cleaned and polished. If you cannot afford the upgrade and your club is an older one where the equipment isn't worth a whole lot, corp won't want anything to do with it and you'll end up closing. I am sure they can make it really tough on the struggling clubs if they want to. As someone told me many years ago, Franchisor's are ruthless. She said I'll understand what she meant one day. They're all like that.

The thing is my equipment still looks new because I have spent money along the way replacing pads, servicing treads every three months and constantly adding new things to keep current and competitive in my very tough market. If I have survived the really tough times I'm not going to just let these suckers make me close my doors. I have taken on Snap with several issues and I have won every time. You just have to push back. Why would they want to mess with my business when it brings them a lot of money every month. Guys, I have already dealt with closing one Snap and all that came with that. Maybe it's a good time to sell.😊

Just another quick note.... Now I know why they added the enhancement fee.... So we could give it back to Peter. Sorry Peter, I actually bought stuff my members wanted!

Yeah not only that but the enhancement fee and my dumb decision to do it cost me 25 + memberships!!!
Ughhh.
Yeah I have the newer line of matrix, the wall flag, the strength quote, updated systems, and yet... still can't make it work.
Today I cut off my clubs internet and am sharing with the neighboring tenants to save money...

We were debating on doing some of this little by little. The first part was to change out a portion of the flooring with the faux wood vinyl planks. Had the guy come in yesterday and tell us that they're seeing a lot of businesses move over to these. The problem they're seeing is a big spike in slip and fall lawsuits because of these tiles. He questioned our desire to do this in a fitness center when we already have a rubber floor which is far less slippery when it gets wet. Adding onto what he said I'm also thinking of all the members who cross that area when doing lunges.
The flooring guy said that the latest slip and fall he saw resulted in a $2M award to the claimant. It was against a Verizon store. Apparently the person came into the store quickly to get out of the rain and when she hit the floor her feet went right out from under her. I'll save you the details, but she hit her head and suffered significant damages. The store only had $1M in coverage and they closed their doors.
So if snap wants to force this then bring up the safety concerns of this type of flooring, especially for a fitness center. If they tell you that there isn't an issue and that it's completely safe then have them assume all liability for any claims arising from the flooring which they're mandating. If there's 0% of an issue then I'm sure they'll be fine in assuming that liability.
The flooring guy gave me a quote on new rubber flooring for that area, which is cheaper. However, I didn't have the heart to tell him I already had a flooring guy who does our rubber flooring.

I wonder if there are different slip ratings for that kind of vinyl tile. I know there are for ceramic and porcelain.
It seems to me that the enhancement fee was introduced this year to get more money in our pockets to modernize. Corp would probably use our generating that money as leverage on making us upgrade to their demands.
25+ memberships is an incredible loss due to the enhancement fee. I feared something like this would happen to me so I didn't do it just yet. I was thinking on maybe next year giving me time to work over my base on accepting it.

We have far too much competition in the area for me to charge the enhancement fee. Those people can, and will, simply move down the road to LA (2), Anytime (3), PF, or Workout Anytime (all within 10 miles). I don't feel that I can jeopardize one membership, let alone 25! Through hard work and penny pinching, I've been able to add equipment yearly and maintain my original and will attempt to do the same with the redesign. My two cents- literally.

For those of us that have been unexpectedly visited by the modernization crew, I'd be interested in hearing updates as far as conversations with corporate regarding that visit or even strong-arm tactics they employ to force you to pay for the modernization.

Here's yet another perfect example of why it would be smart to join/formulate a franchisee association.
A couple things come to mind on this strong-arm bs from corporate:
1. Has anyone pushed back and NOT updated any aspect of what they want? I recall someone said awhile back they didn't have to do that $1000.00 mural.
2. Someone else made the claim that you only have to update to their request/demand if you resign the franchisee agreement and if yours hasn't yet expired you don't yet have to.
3. A sit-down desk -- that is absurd in a fitness club! I wouldn't have a problem with a nice stand-up desk but a sit-down desk is just plain stupid.
Oh, and can/will corporate supply exactly what one needs if you are going to update so you can bid it out like any NORMAL business person would do?

I got an email today from Corp stating that I would be visited by a construction company that will take measurements discretely & I didn't even need to be there for it. They will then get the info to the design team to work up a quote. Can't wait...........

ReadyToTossInTheTowel....are you tellin me that you don't want your staff sitting behind a desk all day at your fitness center? You obviously missed Snap U! What a joke. Just when I think they can't surprise me with their lack of common sense they strike again! Hmmmm....let's push out paperless agreements (and spend the first part of the year spending all of our time and resourses on that) instead of automatically updating our franchises members' credit cards to save them thousands of $'s annually!
So depressing and demoralizing being part of this company!

Brain drain... the feeling I get after trying to make sense of Snap Corporate strategy.
Who's the Genius behind all the moves that have taken Snap from #14 to #125 in Entrepreneur Franchise Ratings?? They obviously know exactly what they are doing. Halted growth since 2013 and declining every year in the US. Anytime has DOUBLED their #':s in the SAME years.
I'm guessing it may be the out of shape loud mouth & a Fit guy with fake hair and a few procedures for a fake face to match that make up the dream team.
Gotta laugh about all the BS once in awhile just to remain SANE

Briandrain.... The big difference between anytime fitness and snap fitness is anytime fitness spent all their time money and resources on growing their franchise. Shit brands decided to take probably at least half of their resources and develop other franchises and leave the original snap fitness franchisees hanging. We all signed up with snap fitness but it has morphed into shit brands and a complete lack of focus on the company that we joined.
