I think one issue with going after a franchisee for closing early is that you really have to treat everyone the same. A good argument for the Z could be, why go after me when you didn't go after the other 100 who closed early? Why would I be treated differently?
Corporate's retention policy should be more than the possible threat of having to pay fees through the end of the term. Our gym's retention policy is to get results for members. As a gym owner, results for me is income. Net income. If I'm no longer happy with the results, and I have nobody listening to my needs, why would I stay?
