www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/why-subway-has-closed-more-than-900-stores-this-year/ar-BBH7CYA?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntpLast week, news broke that franchisees were protesting the chain's plan to bring back the $5 footlong deal.... "The national promotional focus over the past five years … has decimated [us] and left many franchisees unprofitable and even insolvent," petitioners led by Virginia franchisee Mitesh Raval complained in a letter that..... I read this article and in my mind, I was replacing Subway with Snap Fitness with some content modifications. Their $5 footlong is like our $8.95 trial? Subway has dropped by 3% in the US. In the US, Snap Fitness has lost ~4.16% since late April.

I guess we all share the pain of forcibly giving away something essentially for free in hopes there will be a return on it later. I'd hate getting up in the morning knowing all day I'll be serving large sandwiches for $5 and making very little in return with no end in site.
I roll my eyes at the New Jersey lawsuit where attorneys sued Subway because their footlongs were a bit short of 1 foot long. Those were $5 footlong subs. Really? Do they have anything better to do with their time? Maybe those attorneys should not worry so much about stuffing that extra inch of bread down their throats and get their fat butts in the gym.

Not sure what others are seeing, but many of the college kids exhausted their free 30 day pass last year. This year they're getting caught (by us) and many are buying 1 month passes. So fer this holiday break we've made almost $700 on month and day passes. This is money we were losing to them doing free 30 day trials to our club and snap collecting $9 per student. Of course we still have those that sign up for the shitpass and before it's even in their hands they give their 30 day cancellation notice. That's more money that should be in our pockets.
I've said it before that program has to be made an opt in program and a home club program. If you think it'll benefit your club run it, but it does nothing more than crowd my gym with freeloaders.

Most students that i have come across don't plan that far ahead. They want it on the spot.
I have many students that like coming back to me cause I cut a deal for whatever time they want. I don't think I come close to $700 worth, but it's not bad. Plus I add in an extra 5 or $10 reinstatement fee that the corp office charges us (usually $5) to reactivate them up after a lengthy period of inactivity.
Only had 1 person that ticked me off this holiday season. My trainer gave him a free week without asking questions. I warmed up to this prospect and found out he is visiting from out of state and may some day move to my area. He is visiting his parents and needed something to do....for free. I swear, I have to keep repeating the same words every year to my staff on how to weed out visitors that are in for the holidays. My first rule is there is no such thing as a free week during the holidays. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. I have gotten burned EVERY time in years past. No more.

I think that's great and would love to do something similar with us regarding shitpass, myzone, and other corporate focused initiatives. The difference is that no one at Snap would sign a petition cause everyone's afraid to reveals their names and stand up against corporate.
