In snap's normal fashion they're telling franchisees they should give the MyZone away for free to everyone who joins their club. The reason being that everyone should experience what it's like to exercise with the MyZone and that habit should be started on day 1. Well, that's their thought unless that person is signing up on the $8.95 shitpass. In that case it's perfectly fine for them to work out without a MyZone for an entire month and start working out that way. Because as we know franchisees buying things from corporate and handing them out for free makes good business sense, but corporate doing it isn't practical because they'd be giving something away for free, which makes bad business sense.
The hypocrisy is strong with the corporate group.

Actually, in my good faith effort to try out myzone, I bought a bunch of them for my staff. They all gave them back to me. Then I tried giving them out to friends, members, etc... and THEY all gave them back to me. No one wanted them, even for free. LMAO.

If you give something away for free members can either try it or sell it. If they sell it they just reduced the cost of their membership by that amount. If they try it and then sell it then they're selling a used device, which is worth about half.
I'm guessing in a few months you'll see many more of these popping up on ebay. Having members sell them has zero impact on retention.
I've asked visiting members if they have the MyZone devices. All of those that had gotten them (4 to be specific) as part of their sign up said they hadn't activated them and had no intent on activating them. For gym enthusiasts it's a benefit, but for other it's just a "meh". For the gym enthusiasts we constantly work to keep them engaged. For the casual gym goer there are other strategies we incorporate. It's critical to be able to distinguish one from the other. Anything given away for free has little to no perceived value. All you're doing is giving away profit.
Taking this back to the original point I'm a big believer in actions not words. snap can talk all they want about how clubs are doing well by giving things away (which they purchase from corporate) for free, but until they're doing it themselves (by giving away a belt with an $8.95 fitpass) I call bullshit. It's a do as I say, not as I do, and then they cherry pick certain data points while ignoring others.
Really, it boils down to the fact that you can't trust anything coming from corporate. Those at corporate now try the old line, "but this time it's different" and "that was the old snap". However, the C level is the same and it just feels like fresh lipstick on the same old sow.

About a year or so I looked to see how many MyZone's were being sold on sites like eBay. At that time there were none. Now there are pages and pages of them. What would be interesting to see is what facility code comes with them.
