I've always viewed yelp as a scam and extortion (pay us and we'll hide your bad reviews). Anyone seeing anything good with them?

Paying them to hide your bad reviews isn't actually a scam - there IS value to that. Whether it's ethical or not is a different question.
It just depends on how many of your potential members you think are looking at your yelp page.

What they tout is that anyone searching for "gym <city>" will see your club listed at the top. I believe they also offer additional tools for managing your yelp page and offer other features not available with a free page. They claim being a paid subscriber doesn't affect what reviews are viewable. (Not sure I believe it). You may want to include a poll question of whether people are using yelp for recommendations for things other than restaurants. They may provide data on how much their site is consulted.
