Has anyone else been dealing with the recall of the Cybex Smith machine? Mine has been out of commission (they sent a letter stating to take the machine out of use immediately) since September. From what I'm being told, the parts kit to upgrade the machine is on back order and apparently, the people in charge of "fixing" the machine are going slower than Cybex anticipated. This is getting ridiculous- since we are small (3500 square feet), we have only one Smith machine. It makes my location look bad even though I've posted on the machine that it's been recalled. Has anyone else dealt with this?

I've had the same problem. It's my understanding that if it can't be fixed they will provide "money" for a new one. They can't fix it so why aren't they paying for the replacement since the parts are on back order. I have a small gym less than 3000 sf and I lost eight memberships because of this recall. I thought Cybex was a better company than Snap.

I've had members post pics to Google and complain. My hands are tied- I've gotten Corporate involved, but I'm not sure how much pull, if any, they have over Cybex/Life Fitness. I'm getting pretty fed up with the entire process and may resort to putting the Smith back into play in my gym. It's hurting business, so it's also hurting Corporate's bottom line- that, if anything, should stir some sort of movement. Not holding out much hope for a quick resolution.

Never took mine out of service. If there's never been a problem for 10 years plus, another month to wait for parts to come in is no problem. Wasn't the problem described as if someone didn't hook the bar properly there's that chance it would fall on the user? Cybex has to issue that out of service statement for legal purposes. Rather than "out of service" post a note stating to hook the bar fully. Then wait for the parts to come in. I'm not losing members waiting for a part to come in if the machine has been functional for more than a decade. Cybex should compensate you for your lost memberships and down time.
