Has your club had success with personal training? I know some clubs are doing gangbusters. So how do you do it?
How do you compensate your trainers? Do you have one person who only does sales? How do you determine how many trainers to have on board? Do you do group personal training? Do you sell packages or sell a special membership which includes X number of training sessions?

Hi Cheryl,
We just restructured our trainers compensation. Our trainers are paid a percentage of the session, determined by their sales of training and supplements. They have the opportunity to make anywhere from 38%-65%. Our trainers do their own sales. We currently have 5 trainers between two gyms. We started with one and then slowly added them as we saw a need. We offer group training but people rarely use it. We do offer classes included with the membership. All of our sessions are $45 an hour and we try and sell them in packages of 10. I hope this helps!

We have both of our trainers on hourly wage, plus a small commission for each session. We tried for years to make the "independent contract" thing work, and either the club made no money, or the trainers were totally unreliable.
We make a small amount of revenue each month from training. The only success we've had has been offering cheap group sessions...basically $5.00 per session. Anything more than that, and most members around here seem to balk at paying.

Hey Cheryl,
I purchased my Snap in June 2014 (I am the 4th owner). Luckily, I am also a trainer and I run the gym- I have one PT who works with me. Prior to June 2014, this location was averaging 1k per month in PT, we are now doing around 11k/month. I compensate on a percentage of all training- she makes 50% on all new clients and 60% of all clients that she was able to keep from before I bought the gym. As far as sales, I have trained all of our front desk persons to "sell" training- trust me, it works. We do single training and small group training- the small group is where you maximize your profit, plus the clients have more fun. We sell discounted packages for a certain number of prepaid sessions. Hope this helps- Best of Luck.
