I'm purchasing new treadmills. Can anyone provide feedback on the two. Good or bad luck? Better of the two? Anything will be helpful.
Thank you

We've had a good experience with the Matrix 5 series and now the Matrix 7 series. Good uptime and good service. They overcharge for shipping, but I'm finding everyone in the fitness industry does.

Before I purchased I visited a club or two that had them and tried them out. I chose to go with Cybex. Matrix machines were not that dependable at the time and their pivot points were not correct on their resistance equipment. Perhaps they've changed since then. I also asked a repairman what does he service the most. He said Matrix treadmills by far. So...I would ask a service repairman what does he service the most and I would also visit 2 gyms that have each and try them out. My evaluation was some time ago so I cannot tell you what they are like today. I am sure Matrix have come a ways since then.

The one thing you want to make sure you're doing is comparing similar models. Which is better Lexus or BMW? Well, generally I'd say the BMW, but if it's a BMW 1 series vs. a Lexus LFA well the you'd have to go with Lexus. We have 2 Snaps close to us. One has the low end Cybex, the other has the low end Matrix. Both clubs have machines down all the time, to the point that members from those clubs make the trip to my club to complain to me. I'm not familiar with the high end Cybex treadmills, but I can tell you that the 5 series and 7 series from Matrix have worked very well for us. Matrix also makes it easy to do the support on the machines yourself.
My members that have gone to clubs with the Cybex arc trainers (not treadmills) have complained about the movement with them. They don't feel like they're getting much of a workout.
Octane has also come out with the zero runner. It's an interesting machine, but it took me some time to get it to operate in a similar way to a treadmill. It has some cool features. If I had the room I'd probably put one in, but I just don't have any more room to add it without removing a treadmill, and right now we're walking a thin line of not having enough treadmills. The risk is too great for me. I love Octane's cardio equipment and a large percentage of my members love it too. (complaints about having too few). Octane isn't easy to work on yourself, but they're generous with their support of their machines.
As for Matrix strength equipment I don't understand the "pivot point" comment. We have all Matrix selectorized and it's all worked great for us as well. Believe me if it didn't it would be gone and I'd be vocal about what I hated about it. One of the other snaps has the VX-3 (I believe) and I don't see anything beneficial about it over the Matrix line, except that it has a higher price tag.
Woodway has a "Curve" treadmill. Reasonably priced, but very basic interface. The interesting thing is that it's self powered, but also takes some getting used to.

How about parts? Are Matrix parts as pricey as Cybex parts are (motors, running belts, boards)?

I'm not familiar with the prices of Cybex treadmill parts. The motor on the Matrix 5s and 7s are bullet proof and have some crazy long warranty. The 5 and 7 series don't require waxing and have lasted us about 6 years. The lower control board and upper control board are about $500 and $700. Those are your pricier parts. Shipping for small parts is killer (as in bad). $5 part - $19 shipping.

Do they rebuild the electronic boards at a much lower rate or require you to purchase new ones? Either way, how often do those boards fail?

You can get rebuilt ones at about half the price. I'd steer clear of Fitness Repair Parts though. Their model is to buy used equipment without testing it, take it apart and sell the parts. If the part they send you fails they want you to send it back at your cost and then charge you an inspection fee. We bought a card from them, it failed and then we noticed it had the error code written on the board in sharpie. They're absolute thieves. The new boards seem to last for 5 years or so, though we had some we had for 7 years and were the originals when we sold them.
