I wouldn't provide this type of information, as it gives corporate one piece of a puzzle to begin to match a username to a club and then begin taking their vindictive actions, which they're so well known for.

It's smart to do bank draft only. Consider the number of declines with CC and years of NO support on this from corporate regarding the updater options. Current situation, which was made worse ever since Target's issue, members call in a lost card to avoid paying that final month. It's less likely that they are going to change their bank info. I have very few BD declines and even if I have one, and get charged, it far outweighs the loss from CC declines that are unrecoverable. Consider it more misguidance from corporate that we ever even offered CC payments for monthly payments.

What the cost difference in processing between a dank draft and credit card? I think the bank drafts are much less, but not sure. Also, I don't think you can blame Snap HQ much for leading everyone to credit cards back in the beginning. Back then there weren't all the hacks and chipped cards coming out. You can lay the blame at their feet for not getting the auto update going. That's just incompetence or greed, either way it's not good.

I would lose many members if I demanded bank drafts only. People are wary of gyms giving them hassles in the past and drawing directly from their checking accounts.

I was on CC/DC for 5 years. One day I decided I had enough of the declines. I will still accept a CC if a bank info is on file. If they don't want to pay, I don't want them in my gym. trust me I learned the hard way
Another option is to just offerBank draft for a reduced enrollment or something like that

My understanding is that the Anytime Fitness near us only accepts checking accts. I have heard a couple comments from members that checked them out that they did not like that. Boy it would be nice though...save a s**t load on cc fees and much less hassle with declines.

I switched to accepting only BD. If they want to pay by CC, it's full enrollment fee and $5/month more. All the bigger gyms only accept BD. If AF is only accepting BD, then sure it is an advantage. And still I think there is room to add the extra $5/month and still be competitive with AF rates. Then if a CC declines, and they don't pay that last month, you've already collected something extra upfront in the enrollment and extra dues. When a CC declines from an older membership, I offer to waive the $20 fee if they switch to BD. But of course, you want a CC on file to pay the amount due because the fee is too high to manually process a BD.
