Buy this, buy that.. This is what your competition has been doing for the last 5 years, so now we're going to start it. Don't ask any questions. Just do as we say.
No thanks.

I was hoping to meet other owners and managers to commiserate if nothing else haha. JV is going to be there I was told. And also heard they are making a "Major Announcement" this fall.
Any guesses on that? I already confirmed it is not a Chapter 13 announcement.

I hope it's for sale to better owners.

From what I know Pete barely owns any of it anymore, its mostly an investment company in New York (?) I could be totally wrong

I am trying really hard to remember what, if anything, I have walked away with attending these roadshows. I just remember JV praising Peter one year for the wonderful person he is. I think that's all I remember honestly. Oh yeah...I believe my trainer got into an argument with their training vp. lol

I went today. It was good to meet other Zees, but I found the lecture format to not be very appealing, I was hoping for more interaction-- also, they discussed the three path pricing, modernization, convention etc, but not the most important thing for me which is LEADS and marketing and how to GET people in the door so I wish that was brought up.
It just felt a bit, staged... I don't know. I want to hear from clubs in the trenches, how they got out, people in similar markets and how they advertise etc.
Yes we heard about Pete's philanthropy efforts too....
And this forum was mentioned. Naturally.

...because it's a dog and pony show. I guess they really can't step up on stage and sympathize with our struggles can they. Was this forum mentioned by a zee or JV? It is no doubt the most popular snap forum they will ever see.
I believe it would be an impossible task to find a snap club that was pulled from the trenches and is now successful. I think they usually close before that happens.

That's kind of what I would have expected from them. They don't want to take any questions from owners or staff. It's the same 'ol same 'ol, sit down, shut up, don't ask questions, buy what we tell you to buy and don't ask any questions. PASS
Also, taking credit for philanthropy of owners doesn't make one a philanthropist. I NEVER let snap know what we're doing to help out those in our community because I know they'll use it to try and prop themselves up as being philanthropists. Years ago I asked them to donate a portion of the total amount (10%). They passed stating they didn't have the resources to investigate the legitimacy of the charitable organization. It was the local volunteer Fire Department. Does that really need investigating?

Yeah, we weren't counting on corporate to make the sole donation. We simply asked them to match our contribution. If they did then we'd change it from "Snap Fitness of 'cityname' " to simply "Snap Fitness". They suggested having surrounding Snaps contribute to raise the matching portion. We've also requested a caveat be placed on anything acknowledging our contribution that "All fund from Snap are from the local Snap. "No contributions were made by Snap's corporate headquarters". I loathe the fact that they try to take credit for donations made by owners.
As far as profits go, we are profitable. However, it required us to throw away the snap "playbook" out the window, as well as just about every piece of technology they forced us to buy. They sell bottom of the barrel technology at top of the line pricing and then have no clue how to support it. If you want to be successful you have to keep what's forced on you by snap down to a minimum. I have no doubt that if we got rid of shitware and the horrendous processing company they force us to use we'd be even more successful.
Unfortunately snap doesn't have a clue about anything in any field. (eg fitness, software, processes, management, operations, etc) They're typically late to the game, and when they finally do get in the playing field and rules have changed. I just don't think the ceo has a very high iq and isn't capable of realizing how poorly and incompetently the organization is run.
I've watched several of their webinars. Each time hoping that they'd say something intelligent. I'm let down each and every time. Every one of their seminars goes over the basics of the topic. Almost all of it is common sense. At the end I feel I've just wasted more of my time.
Want an example? Over the last 5 years the trend has been moving towards boutique clubs. They're referred to as boutique clubs because they specialize in 1 or 2 particular things. It may be something like spinning, kickboxing, hot yoga, crossfit, etc). So snap decides they should turn their clubs into boutique clubs. Do they release webinars on how to create a kick ass spin studio, mini kickboxing dojo or barre studio? No. Their idea? Change the flooring, put up some big decals and wood paneling. This is their idea of a boutique. Make it look fancy. 4 words - Big hat, no cattle. Sorry, you completely missed the concept of a boutique club. So, if you want to do a real boutique club then it's on you. You investigate, you test out products, you design it all. So you have to ask yourself. If snap's not doing anything for you then why do you need them?

Well said determined1, however, I don't think the underlying issue is solely the CEO. I think that JV is a large part of the problem because the CEO relies on him to execute visions and they epically fail. Then the organization regroups with the newest idea from 5 years ago! About the only thing that has been mastered is the fleecing of zees to keep the corporate gyms looking profitable.
Want an example? MyZone, the cost to zees was $60 (now $50) per to resell at $149, or better yet put on sale for $99 and heck even better giveaway as part of PT packages because you don't want to lower your per month dues rate, you want to lower and/or give away something else instead. I have seen these selling on eBay for $25 or less, so I talked with a few sellers that have told me their price per case makes the product $20 or less based on quanity. Next, look at equipment such as Matrix, we get a "discount"....is it really? Look at Staples, no discount there, in fact the pricing is higher for us as part of Snap's Staples Advantage. So, who is getting the better pricing? not me over here!
Someday, Pete will discover that JV is not the best person to plan and execute visions. Doing just enough to get by means we have to work harder to innovate and execute the vision...and create our own opportunities for lower prices. Now that you have money by spending your time negotiation, you can create that boutique facility with substance, you have always wanted.

A website that no one reads? You should have asked him if he meant the internal snap forum. There's almost no activity there, to the point that people have to ask if it's still there. It hasn't been relevant for quite a while because they don't want to address the issues with shitware, of which I'm sure there are many.

Ha. Yeah...the portal forum you mean? Every time I posted something it either didn't get approved or got deleted or something. I like how here people can say what they truly feel

I just posted to the internal forum thread asking if it's still active. I stated the internal forum started out as an open community where Franchisees could learn from each other. But it turned into just another corporate communication channel with marginal value. I think it reflects the culture and am disappointed. Challenged them to post it. I'm sure they won't.

I'm surprised to read some of the negative posts on the corp form are displayed for all to see, but have no response. Maybe they're trying to find someone who isn't quitting and sticking around long enough to reply.
