Briandrain.... The big difference between anytime fitness and snap fitness is anytime fitness spent all their time money and resources on growing their franchise. Shit brands decided to take probably at least half of their resources and develop other franchises and leave the original snap fitness franchisees hanging. We all signed up with snap fitness but it has morphed into shit brands and a complete lack of focus on the company that we joined.

The same guy visited our club the other day. Claimed "we were supposed to have gotten an email." Of course I never got any email about it.
Our club generates a miniscule level of monthly revenue. I will not spend one dime on any more modernization. I'll simply close the club.

If your employees aren't doing their job a desk isn't going to increase or decrease their laziness. I'd argue that the K-mart folding table and the craftsman clone tool box for your computer and camera system are some of the ugliest and ill conceived ideas you could have at your club. They look cheap and they're typically the first thing you see when you walk in. The space we were renting already had a nice desk built in. We argued for months with Snap because they wanted us to rip it out and buy their $10 folding table for $250 and their stupid red tool box for some ridiculous price. We thought they looked stupid back then and glad to see Snap has finally agreed. Oh, we also had a computer closet for all of the computer equipment. (Of course that's not where they put any of the computer or networking equipment. We moved it there when we had time to reconfigure everything.
Back to the original topic... I'm not recommending a $3K desk, but I would install a decent sized, nice looking desk if you have the room. Make it easy to see when people walk through your door so they know where to head. Also, try to incorporate it into the club so that it makes it easy to talk with members and engage them in conversation. Many clubs set their desk far away from the workout floor and anyone standing from the desk is isolated from club members. Good desk placement is crucial.
Personally, I'd like to change our desk so that I could display things for sale behind glass on the front of the desk. However, that would cost $$ which would be better spent on some new equipment.

This effort to make clubs modernize will make the decision to close come much easier. And as someone may have mentioned, the revenue statistics will look better, the number of members per club will look better. They will use this to con more new Zs (newbies)into spending their hard earned money on this money pit. What to do next? It makes my decision easier. I suspect some of us will close sooner than expected or planned.

What's your local planet fitness up to? Ours is installing all new strength equipment. Not sure what that means until it's actually installed, but they have notices up all around their club about it. Maybe it's going from crap to crap+.
Also, the local PF has a hydro-massage bed. Personally, I've never been impressed with them. They don't give much of a massage, IMHO. Anyway, what's interesting is that the massage bed sits out in the open. Anyone walking by is just walking right by you. They also don't provide the headphones, which are supposed to be part of the experience. Do you provide a private room for your hydro massage bed? If so, are you pointing this out?

If I put in any kind of a massage bed, there would be line full of seniors on insurance plans waiting to use it...

I'm wondering what the company name of the construction company was that paid your clubs a visit? I came in this morning with a pamphlet and business card of Falcon construction on my desk.

Not sure how many of you have it already, but one of the things that Snap is requiring for this modernization is using Fitness on Demand. A cool $200 every month for the basic package if you didn't already have it before the price increase. No complaints over the tech guys, they have been helpful when needed, but the other areas of customer service have for the most part sucked. Much like their parent company.

Not sure how that could be a requirement unless they are setting it up in the alley behind my gym. No space here. Who's getting quotes from Falcon? Haven't heard a peep.

I heard that MyZone would be required. So add both of these charges, MZ and FOD, to your monthly billing.
I think there are quite a few owners who expanded space to add things like FOD. But when it comes to economics/profitability, I see a potential decision to go back to the small size (without FOD), or just close.
I've heard corporate expects to require us to purchase things like the wood flooring from them only. However, I am quite sure this is illegal as it is anti-competition. It can only be required if it is specific to the branding (the mural as an example) or implemented when the brand is new (which it is not).

I have no idea how they are going to require it, especially for clubs that don't have extra room. I was told about this back in February when I went to cancel and it was supposed to take effect in May. I decided to keep it because I wasn't going to have the price upped $50 later on. Thinking about it, I wonder if Lake Mills closed partially for this reason. They told the old manager it was because of the lease expiring and declining numbers, but they didn't really have space to put a FOD system either.
If you can avoid it, do it. The basic package is maybe 150, 200 videos at most and a lot of them are more intense than most people want to do. I have told people that might want to try them that there is someone that shows less intense modifications in at least most of the videos, but they change some of the videos each month. They used to have Daily Burn videos that a lot of my members used, but once that contract ended, so did most people using it. It was cheaper to put up a TV, buy a Fire Stick, pay a monthly Daily Burn fee and stream over 800 videos for less than $30/month.

To keep your FOD because they are suddenly required sounds like scare tactics to me. I was told before we couldn't remodel our own clubs, but then I hear owners now and then were able to contract outside of liftbrands. I guess it would be an easy excuse of a reason to push small clubs out of the scene by this FOD requirement. I think smaller established clubs are grandfathered in. They must be. I'm pretty sure it's illegal as well since older clubs were recommended finding 2500 to 3500 sqft space to build out which leaves no classroom space. Myzone maybe, but I don't want it. Just another toy they make money on.
