So did anyone go to the convention? What was so important that we had to be there? Big announcement?

The only announcement I'd be interested in hearing is that Taunton is retiring...

I sense there is a much better management team in place with new COO, IT director and the Marketing Dir appear stronger. MyFit will launch soon with daily workouts. Importantly, these will run on FOD systems as well "FitKit" will be a $99 version of FitPass that will included a Myzone belt & access card & shaker bottle AND $30 back to the club FitPass = no changes

Other observations and things I’ve learned:
1) Peter opening with not liking to talk about himself and then proceeding to give us his life story. One story was about him as a youngster throwing something across the room and then doors opened and he hit his dad in the head. His dad commenting, "I don't expect you to be the best employee, but certainly not the worst." At that moment I started adding up the cost of the trip in my head.
2) Barely enough seats for all those invited plus last minute arrivals.
3) Carnival hammer game in vendor showcase was annoying as hell.
4) The pool party needed more bartenders than just 1. Vendor showcase had at least 5. a. Pool party bartender thought Blue Moon Belgian Style beer comes from Belgium and therefore was told to charge $12 per bottle because it was imported. Not. b. Peter walked right by some woman lying on the ground comforted by fellow franchisees. Heat exhaustion? Not sure what the issue was, but shirtless Peter was jacked and new it as he calmly proceeded to the pool area. c. Fish tacos? Good grief man.
5) Found an Elvis in a motorized scooter who told a woman to f-off when she took an unexpected picture of him and wouldn't pay him for it.
6) Not all of the women walking out of the hotel elevator at 5am dressed in short skirts and heels were dressed for the airport.
7) Strategically placing slot machines EVERYWHERE is probably responsible for my confusion of where the elevators were for the first 2 days.
8) Most franchisees I spoke to were very nice and echoed my frustrations in business.
9) Most franchisees I spoke to were annoyed by the shaming of domestic clubs by the corp upper level and the praising of the Australian clubs as if we don't know what we are doing.
10) Next year, maybe I'll take my shirt off, put a cowboy hat on and walk the streets for a few bucks in exchange for a pic.

WOD set up as individual videos (9 or 12) on the MyZone monitors. This is similar to what F45 has in their clubs, being labeled as a MyFit workout. Hopefully this is released soon and with limited problems.
Agreed that Peter's opening was all about himself. What an ass! I've belonged to many companies before and have never heard a CEO talk on and on about himself so much. When he said he was going to talk about his low points in his life I thought for sure he would talk about the swindling conviction against him, but no, that was completely omitted. I was glad to see one franchisee didn't hold back and brought up issues with fitpass, fitware and even called peter out on stating that he was against bullying, but that snap constantly bullies its franchisees and is one of the worst bullies out there. That was epic! peter tried to defend snap's actions, but it's pretty clear how they think. If you open a snap they expect you to work for them for the rest of your life as an indentured servant. peter also stated that Australia now has fitpass, and a couple australian club owners in the crowd agreed. However, I pulled a couple of their clubs on my phone and that's just a bold faced lie. fitpass is completely absent from their websites. Maybe they aren't aware of what fitpass is.
People cheered Fitkit, which is really just corporate competing against its' clubs for MyZone, first month's dues and activation charges.
They also threatened modernizing again and pushing harder on ripping out your selectorized equipment and replacing it with an adult version of a jungle gym. This will pull in more millennials. However, it will also force out the 40+ crowd. So the question is what makes millennial money better than 40+ money?

wait a minute, they charged for drinks at the pool party? Typical level of class one would expect from Taunton. Did they also make the attendees help clean the pool before they left?

There was definitely mic problems and volume issues for those speaking on the stage which made it difficult at times to understand what was being said. I think they should have repeated questions asked by the zees. I remember one club owner with their back to me speaking to Peter. Hard to hear everything that was spoken. When you have a large crowd like that a sound check beforehand would probably be a good idea. They sure didn't have any issues with playing music beforehand....very loud. I'm not a fan of having my ears blown away in the early morning while sipping on coffee after a night of having a few drinks.
Peter's life stories aren't going to motivate me in any way. Heard it all before. That time probably could have been better spent by Peter just saying hello and thanking everyone for investing in his dream. I was very disappointed in the lack of time given for Q&A. Q&A always starts off slow. Then picks up more quickly given enough time. One hour isn't enough time. If a question is asked in one minute with a 10 minute response, that equates to around maybe 5 questions per hour? Q&A should probably be a 3 hour session. Then a summary posted on the portal for all franchisees to follow up on.
I'll correct myself..it wasn't a bottle of beer, but rather a can of beer that was $12 each..poolside. Imported only. Ridiculous. If domestic was free, then charge a couple bucks extra if they're so concerned about the expense of an import. That's if they know what an import is.
Pool was crowded. Someone mentioned to me that the pool had a max depth of 3'. Is this true? bahahahaha I was only there to grab beers. Sounds like a bath tub. The pool lunch provided was munchies only. Micro sized fish tacos, nacho chips and dips and some salad mix. Long lines for drinks and munchies.

Did anyone get the 1000 fine? I just did for not attending. I registered and due to some unfortunate events we could not attend. Is anyone fighting this?

I don't mean to be condescending but we have one guest on here that can't figure out how to reset their password, and another who can't figure out to contact corporate if they got fined accidentally. Maybe we can't blame corporate for ALL of the company's problems (just most of them)...

Didn't go - don't see any fine in my corporate statement. Our lawyer told us that they're more than welcome to state in the franchise agreement that they'll fine you if you don't go, but can't just randomly charge you a fee they pick out of thin air. It has to be clearly stated what the fine is. You have to know what the fine is when you're signing. Otherwise they could make it $10,000 next year and $100,000 the year after. Of course our lawyer fedex'd them a letter stating such.
I also find it curious that only guests are stating they received a fine. That would appear to me to be corporate trying to add teeth to a toothless threat.

I was just making a comment- that I was fined. You bet I contacted them ! Are you crazy? Of course I contacted them right away---
