So I am about 5 years into my Snap Fitness venture and still have yet to see how Silver Sneakers is a benefit to my clubs. Upon purchasing my clubs one of my first "unpleasant surprises" was to find out that many of the "Membership Total" numbers included this wonderful program we know of as Silver Sneakers... I then ran the numbers and found that of the 150 or so members listed, the vast majority were not using the facility and had not been for several years.
I contacted my then FAM... (who for all I know is not still with the company) and was told the "wonderful" benefits of having such a program in place and how I could use this opportunity to reach out to those inactive members and invite them to come back. I asked "Do I HAVE to participate in this program?" and was told that "Yes I indeed do need to participate... as ALL Snaps participate in the program. (which I later found out is not the case).
I did follow the advise and reach out to those members and this is no a joke.... received ZERO response... in all cases either the phone number was not valid... the person did not return the call, or they had unfortunately passed away. (Lovely reminder of good ole deceased Grandma to have her Gym call you and ask how she is doing)
I cancelled all the ones that had not been using the facility and began the journey of replacing the 100+ members I originally thought I had.
Though the years I have spoken with the few Silver Sneakers that actually do use the club consistently.. they are WONDERFUL folks.. and I do not hold any ill will towards them in any way. However, I have found one thing in common will all of them... They would have used my club WITHOUT SliverSneakers...... I know this because They are all avid gym-goers... I am the closest gym to them... NONE of them want or need a pool. SOOOOO why am I receiving a fraction of the dues from them that I receive from other members?
I know.... the intention is to put people into the club at a time of day when it would normally be slow... My Silver Sneakers are in at the Prime Times just like anyone else.
I know "You can use the opportunity to sell them Personal Training"... As I said before... 100 percent of my ACTIVE Silver Sneakers are in fantastic shape.. in fact one of them IS a retired personal trainer. Those unconditioned folks that "Just changed insurance and were told they get a FREE membership at your club" show up on a "Fixed income" and are rightfully more concerned with spending their money on heart medication and Not Personal training..... SO... like most of you I end up eating the cost of the access card... paying a new "Member Maintenance Fee", have them show up twice only to DEMAND free assistance, and NEVER see them again.
This is an asinine program... I HATE IT! It makes me hate people.
Who makes money on this??? Snap??? The insurance company??? It certainly isn't me.
Sorry... Sunday shift was ruined by a Trainer Quitting due to his FOURTH new Silver Sneaker member wasting his time.
