Oh yeah...if you take into account the $35/mth corp. charges us for the ss program and an additional $45 in monthly membership maintenance fees the 19 number drops to 17.

I look forward to this being a hot topic at the next convention. An adjustment of the member fees need to be made for insurance memberships for sure. Why is it we take the hit, but with corp it's business as usual? I wonder what corp administration fees are involved with getting the money to us. I thought maybe they'd sympathize with us and cut us a break for memberships that don't produce their new minimum $30/mo.

On a standard membership franchisees collect money in different ways and corporate takes a piece of that. For ss they mandate that you charge $0. In a true "Franchisees First" environment (Heck, it would really be considered a "Franchisees and HQ treated Equal") they'd say we realize you don't make anything on the sign up, so we won't charge you anything on sign up.
There are multitudes of areas where they could show a "Ftanchisees First" mindset immediately. Instead they continue with business as usual with fatboy johnny responding to franchisees in his typical "That's the way we do it, so go fuck yourself" attitude. (see the snap forum post on online sign ups)
It's easy to say you're going to change, but actions speak louder than words.

Corporate's stance I'm sure will either be
1. The price can be set at $34.95, but it's just not collected at that amount. Therefore it's in line with guidelines 2. It can be made a home club membership and not subject to the guidelines.

When a ss disappears for a length of time (like they usually do) and come back to sign up again, has anyone been charging reinstatement fees like corp charges us? $5? $10? I am thinking about doing that now. I realize some of you (yankedchain, firecracker) have pulled the plug on this program. I need the $$, but if this game continues, I am passing the new member fee I get billed from corp on to the customer.

Any member who is PPV, should not be treated by Corporate as a regular paying member. Any and all fees associated with these members need to be reduced, or even eliminated. There is little benefit to the program other than keeping the community involved with the gym. We lose $5 on a free access card, new member fee and ongoing maintenance fee on each member- all of this for the small handful of these members who use the gym 8 times per month so we can get our $22-$23 per month from Tivity. If needs to be a win-win for all parties involved and right now everyone is winning with exception of the franchisee and this needs to stop. I don't blame the ones who drop SS- it's a lot of wear and tear on the equipment, a payroll expense for those who need an equipment orientation and very little gained.

I eliminated the program, will take some time to assess whether it was a good idea or not.
I was correct that most of the active users would continue to use my gym even though they now pay for it. It's too bad I had to make them feel guilty for using a program that they had no idea takes advantage of franchisees.
I have had to instruct my managers to ask telephone inquiries "Are you familiar with our pricing structure?" Before agreeing to meet a someone at the club during non staffed hours. Nothing worse than showing up @ 6:00 am on a Sunday only to be yelled at by an octogenarian who was "Promised they could join for free!"...
