If you don't want to mount it, I would get an Otter Box or similar case for it and then find a way to tether it to the desk with a lock. We are looking at ways to not mount ours as well.

And here I thought these ipads were actually being given to us but I just had to agree that the ipad remains the property of snap fitness inc. I guess I should have figured as much.

I just took mine out of the box. lol Been too busy with other stuff I guess. I would say lock it up every night. Not sure how it's going to work, but my first thought was make a nice wood platform to mount stand to with felt bottom feet to slide it on the table.
They just want us to use them for work. If they were giving them to us, they'd send it as an xmas present instead of a metal car.

I got this from a fellow owner nearby after i asked him if he had set up his iPad yet (I'm waiting until bugs like this are cleared out): 'We got it set up, but the iPad auto dims the screen after a few minutes to the point you can barely see anything then goes into hibernation mode after a few minutes after that, so that it goes completely dark. Since you can't hit the activation button at the bottom of the iPad because of the desk mounted frame, it's useless. We put in a help ticket to corporate and they answered with yeah, they know, and they're working on a solution. Seems the iPad is preloaded and all settings locked so any changes have to be "pushed out" from corp as a software update etc. Cluster F

We are definitely not using the ipad for the sign up process....see no real benefit for it. Was hoping to let my daughter use the Ipad but guess not since it is locked.

NewHere: The iPads software settings are locked. You can't change them. This will have to be done by corp Snap with a software update that they push out when ready.

So I think I am correct here in saying if you turn that ipad on and register it, you are stuck using it from then on. Fitware will look for it every time I believe. Don't register it if you aren't ready to use it yet or do not want to use it. Mine was off put in the backroom somewhere and I had to find it, turn it on to get a signature from the customer. No bypassing it once you register.

We are not using this until proven that it actually streamlines the process to sign someone up, reading through the FAQ they put out on the 7th it looks like the process is actually longer now and you need to do some stuff in fitware and some on the ipad and then of course don't forget to get the e- signature. I just love the comment about the home button being covered and the pad goes dark, duh, you need to press the home button. Does no one in corporate who was in on the planning use an ipad, or even an iphone? This is just basic stuff and totally over their heads. Amazing. One more thing some CC's are pretty hard to read the numbers, you mean this most incredible of software is 100% going to capture that # from a picture and upload it to fitware with 100% accuracy. I kind of doubt that.

This is what we are paying another monthly fee for? What the HELL good is this ipad process? Yeah...let's make the prospect key in their information! I mean seriously, what is the benefit of this "technology". John V. please explain why corporate spent time on this vs. giving us the credit card updater? That is money in our (and your) pocket. God this is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo frustrating. Get the word out folks.....let any interested potential new franchisee what they would be in for. I know for a fact this forum has been visited by several people that were contemplating a venture into the fitness industry. How do I know, I have spoken to and emailed over 10 warning them NOT to go with snap.

Ours is mounted in the box with the cellophane around it. When they get it integrated properly we'll mount it differently, probably circa 2082.

Cheryl...why even bother? How does this help our bottom line? I'm just bummed they locked everything else out. Thought for a second I was actually going to get something useful, a new ipad, for all of the fees I pay.

I am not sure I understand the urgency of launching this ipad. It doesn't do everything it should such as being versatile enough to sign any kind of membership you want. Maybe it will be a good tool to save paper contracts in the long run, but for now, it will only sign people to your book prices you input in settings. Everyone else like insurance people and all prepaid memberships must be entered into fitware by hand. Then signed on the ipad. Further upgrades will include more versatility I am sure....which brings me to my point of the urgency of getting this out so soon? Wouldn't time be better spent on things like oh I don't know....cc updater?
Was the dim feature fixed? Mine just stays dim indefinitely without having to press the home button. A finger touch on the screen wakes it up.

So I won't mount my ipad. I probably have used it maybe 15 times already for signatures only. Enter the info in Fitware by hand without paper contracts, then I spin ipad around, put it in front of the customer, scroll through the t&c with my own finger and tell them to sign. Then repeat again. Nobody has complained and cares to read everything on the pad. I verbally tell them the important stuff that applies to them and scroll. It speeds things up and I get to lock my ipad away without a mount.
